The first trade lost. That was the only mistake. Everything that came after was me trying to fix it — and that's where the real damage came from.
The setup.
NQ was in a clean uptrend off the overnight low. I had a 1H FVG below current price as my entry zone. The plan was simple: wait for the pullback into the gap, get long, target the previous day high.
Price pulled into the FVG. I entered. 1 contract. Stop 15 points below.
Within 4 minutes, NQ broke down through the gap. Stop hit. -$300. That was the only trade I should have taken that day.
What I did wrong.
The loss made me angry. Not "tilted" yet — just frustrated. The setup was clean. The market should have respected it.
So I waited 10 minutes and took it again — same level, same direction. This time 2 contracts because "the move is gonna happen, I just got in too early."
-$1,400 in 26 minutes
Three trades. One was the plan. Two were emotion. The two emotion trades did 4x the damage of the planned one.
What I changed.
This is where my 2-trade rule was born. Maximum 2 trades per day, no exceptions:
- Win first trade = done
- Lose first trade = derisk 50%, take ONE more
- Lose second trade = done
- Win second trade = done
If I had this rule on that day, I would have lost $300 and finished. Instead I lost $1,400. The rule isn't about being conservative — it's about removing decisions you can't be trusted to make while emotional.
OUT-DISCIPLINE
YOUR BIOLOGY.
The first loss isn't the killer. The reaction to it is.
One loss doesn't blow accounts. Three losses in 26 minutes does. Have a hard rule that triggers BEFORE the emotion does, because in the moment you'll always rationalize "just one more."
