The trades you make at 9:35 AM ET are decided at 9:15 AM ET. Not before, not after. The 15 minutes before the open is where you set up the entire day — or where you skip the prep and improvise your way to a loss.

Here's the exact 15-minute routine that turns chaos into a plan.

Minutes 0-3: overnight check.

First thing you do — figure out what happened while you were asleep.

You're building the context for what kind of day it is. A 30-point overnight range = quiet day. A 100-point overnight range = volatile day. Plan accordingly.

Minutes 3-6: mark levels.

Open your chart. Pull up the higher timeframe levels that matter today. Mark them.

// MUST-MARK LEVELS

The non-negotiables

→ Previous day high and low
→ Previous day close
→ Overnight high and low
→ Open daily / 4H / 1H fair value gaps
→ Any major liquidity from the previous week

These are the only levels you trade off of. Everything else is noise.

Minutes 6-9: identify the draw.

Where does price WANT to go today?

Look at the previous day's structure. If price closed near the low after sweeping a high, the draw is likely lower. If price closed near the high after sweeping a low, the draw is likely higher. The market took out one side of liquidity — now it's targeting the other.

Your bias for the day is built around the draw. Long bias if the draw is up. Short bias if the draw is down. No bias = no trade.

Minutes 9-12: set alerts.

Don't sit there staring at the chart. Set alerts on the key levels you marked.

// ALERT STRATEGY

Get notified when price approaches a level

You don't need to watch every candle. Set alerts 2-3 points away from your key levels. When one triggers, that's your cue to focus. Until then, you can walk around, hydrate, breathe.

Minutes 12-15: write the plan.

Before you take ANY trade, write down your scenarios. On paper or in a notes app — doesn't matter. The act of writing it forces clarity.

// THE 5-LINE PRE-MARKET PLAN

Bias today: ____________
Key level to watch: ____________
Entry trigger: ____________
Stop: ____________
Target (minimum 1:3): ____________

If you can't fill in all five before the open, you're not ready to trade. Sit out, watch, learn for the day.

What NOT to do.

Why 15 minutes.

PREPARATION REMOVES
DECISIONS. DECISIONS
IS WHERE LOSSES LIVE.

Every decision you make in real-time is influenced by emotion. Every decision you make pre-market is influenced by analysis. Move as many decisions as possible into the pre-market window and your win rate goes up automatically.

15 minutes. 5 steps. Every trading day. That's the routine.
